If you only spent 10 minutes, I doubt if you went to the other end of the building where we have, a large creative space for kids, puzzles, caterpillar exhibit, an Axolotl, loads of posters to read and things to do. We have 22 frogs ( 10 species ), including the Golden Darts in two variety. We don't kill butterflies when they age and start looking tattered ( as they do in the wild), we feed and take care of them. , and over 30 1 day old Monarchs in perfect condition. At the time of your visit we were flying over 100 butterflies in the flight room, including special beautiful species from Florida. WOW! What a shock to read this review and how sorry we are that you did not have a good experience. She told us that she designed it as a place for special needs kids to have for field trips, but it is fantastic for kids of all ages. The owner (Mari) is also very friendly and helpful. It is reasonably priced, and will keep the kids busy for an hour or two. If you are in the Pocono area and are looking for a nice thing to do with your little ones, this is definitely worth the visit. Plenty to keep them busy while you read the information along the walls.

In between, there are lots of other activities for the kids - puzzles, toys, arts and crafts. At the other end is a classroom where the owner talks a bit about them, and also plays one of those 1980s videos about butterflies (it is kid oriented, and pretty informative). You can pick them up and feed them - but the room is pretty small, so if the place is crowded, it can be tough to get around. There is a small room at one end with butterflies (mostly monarchs) flying around. But it is just the right size if you are travelling with little kids. The sanctuary is not huge, like some others we have seen at arboretums and zoos. We stopped off here with our kids during a recent trip to the Poconos, and it ended up being a great visit.
